Type Locality and Naming

Northernmost Taiwan. The type section is located at Houlongxi in Chuhuangkeng Anticline along the bank of Longxi River, Miaoli County, Taiwan Province. It was named by Ishikawa Y. in 1931 and re-surveyed by He C. et al. in 1956.


Lithology and Thickness

It is characterized by the cinerous, thick to thin, calcareous fine sandstone and dark grey shale or siltstone. Foraminifera, Bivalves and Calcareous nannofossils are yielded. The thickness is 700-750 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It is conformable in contact to the underlying Shidi Fm.

Upper contact

It is conformable in contact to the overlying Nanzhuang Fm.

Regional extent

The formation is distributed in area around Miaoli County.
